Fireworks and Night

I've had a marvellous evening. I walked up to the Downs to watch the fireworks. On the way, I stopped in a cafe on Whiteladies Road to have coffee and cake for my dinner. Just call me Mr. Decadent.

I had a lot of fun taking photos on the Downs. It didn't go how I expected -- I got a lot more out of taking photos of the people and the fairground rides than I did taking shots of the fireworks (which stopped about a quarter of the way in, and then restarted a bit later, more subdued, apparently due to some kind of backstage accident. Hopefully nobody was hurt...)

And then I had even more fun on the way home. There were thousands of people at the fireworks, and most of them headed back down Whiteladies Road, and I took lots of photos. In the general party atmosphere, a few people randomly posed for me, and I convinced an entire set of folks who were hanging out of their living room window to light up some sparklers and wave them for me, which was excellent.

As I got off the main drag and headed for home, I had the urge to go through St Andrew's Walk, and with the remaining battery I took a couple of lovely night shots on the walkway and on a bench. In the mood for playing, I set up a long exposure on self-timer, posed on a bench, and jumped up and out of shot halfway through, which is where this ghostly photo comes from.

Ghostly Me

Just as I was about to pack up, I heard the Imperial March from Star Wars being hummed, and found a bunch of girls wandering up the Walk with light sabers. I couldn't resist asking them to sit on the bench for me, so I now have an odd photo of light-saber-bearing women on a bench in a graveyard. I love it when life happens so randomly and genially...

And that was my evening. The rest of the photos are here -- don't worry, I've weeded through them, so there's only about 30 in total...
