Job Stuff

Oh, and in further news, I'm up for an interview to see if I can keep my own job, probably next week. I'm not particularly worried, mind, but it's irritating, especially as I've got enough bloody work to do at the moment without lots of fooling about with meta-work. And the rest of the department, all of whom are facing the same thing, are rather more worried, from what I've seen.

Someone mentioned that the interviews would be about 90 minutes long. I'm not sure I've ever been in an interview that's even approached an hour before. Hmm. Well, if I've got to be interviewed no matter what, then maybe I should take a look on JobServe and see what other jobs are going in Bristol. Come to think of it, I can probably worry my boss quite a lot by taking a random morning off next week. Hmm....

A 90 minute interview? Is there a presentation in it?

Many of my interviews end up being pretty long but that's because they usually generate tangent discussions of interest. Plus I interview them straight back which also takes time. And then there's all the bollox about giving them examples of work/projects/things you've done that demonstrate this or that skill...
Would definitely make sure you're aware of what else is out there even just to know market rates. Doesn't mean you can get a raise but it helps to remind them sometimes that they are getting a lot of brain/skills for their money.
And LOVE the idea of half day off.... you should totally DO IT!

longer the interview the safer you are - let's face it they need you more than vv.

whole thing sounds like this place. atm i know who my line manager is and the name of my dept and my project. so i had better update my cv!!!

Huh? 90 minutes? Not sure I've ever had an interview that short.
