Just a quickie: This evening I successfully did my first run of the "Couch to 5K" running plan :) There are excruciating details on my shiny new running blog.

I figured that reading about other people's exercise was potentially one of the "I'd rather watch paint dry" experiences for people on my flist, so from now on, that's where I'm going to keep any descriptions of the running that are any more detailed than "I did a run", unless they seem particularly relevant or interesting...

I was pleased to find I could do 10K in 54 minutes earlier in the year, but while there's some daylight around I prefer to go out on the bike in the evenings. One thing I make a point of doing when I go out running is to carry some ID, just in case. For me this would be bus pass (with my mum's name and phone number on the back of the photo card), bank card and usually something like a £5 or £10 note. They don't take up much weight or space, and they're quite handy if you get stuck a fair way from home (my runs tend to be about 4 - 6 miles).

Good point. I did consider what I might want with me. On t'other hand, I never bothered taking much more than a few quid along to karate, just because a gi doesn't have pockets :) I actually quite like the idea of going out without carrying ID, it's a nice thing to do while we still can! But I suppose it would be less selfish to at least take my donor card along...

I may prepare a mini survival kit for the bum bag :)

Yay I downloaded it too but havent run yet... trying your genius idea for music although I did have a gym set... Enjoyed your blog.

Cool -- bear in mind that the current version of the app on the App Store doesn't "duck" the music while the voice prompts play -- the new version that does that has been submitted to Apple but it still awaiting approval, so if the voices might be irritatingly quiet against your choice of music, it may be worth waiting for the update...

Well done you!

I downloaded a rival "Couch to 5k" program from the app store, just before you mentioned your friend's app, and I've been tempted to try running myself, although I'm still struggling to work out where and when I would run. And still slightly unsure as to whether I would do it or stick with it, given how much I hated running at school.

I'll enjoy reading your blog, and it may motivate me :)
